Let us help you answer your kitchen, bathroom or home renovation questions with our FAQ’s

To help you on your kitchen, bathroom or home renovation journey, we have collated our most frequently asked questions. If you have a question for us that we haven’t answered, visit our ‘Get In Touch’ page to send your enquiry.
How can Good Design improve my life?

The objects that we use, the spaces we inhabit and the way we live our lives are either creations of or contingent on the designed environments that form a part of our every day existence. Design has the power to enable or disable according to its strengths or weaknesses.

Good Design is design that enables: it engages with intention, curiosity and imagination and is applied in the particular – to spaces, places, and people. We believe that it’s the responsibility of a good designer to care about how you live, who you live with, and how your living space can be configured and enriched to serve all your daily needs. It’s our job, as good designers, to take care with all the myriad mundane pieces of a day that together have the power to improve your life and the way that you live it.

Do you install kitchens?

We offer a ‘dry-fit’ kitchen service that is provided by a dedicated installation team. A dry-fit involves installing the kitchen furniture and putting all the working elements and surfaces in place. Plumbing, electrical and other specialist trades are required to connect these safely to the services (water, electricity, and gas – where the latter is included).

How much is a kitchen renovation with Day True?

We offer two ranges of furniture to allow us to offer different price points, styles and details.

  • Our “True” range is our ‘couture’ style bespoke range of furniture. This range is manufactured in Malvern by Roundhouse and showcases exceptional craftsmanship and detailing inside and out. Our bespoke range is completely customisable. Bespoke kitchens start from £50k.
  • Our “Day” range comprises two ‘off-the-peg’ style modular collections in the form of furniture manufactured in the same factory as our True range and furniture manufactured in mainland Europe. These ranges, while distinct from each other, both offer high quality European-style systems and are able to be customised within certain limits. Together they provide a wide variety of options to choose from for style and finish. ‘Day’ range kitchens start from £35k.
  • More guidance on pricing is available on our IQ Hub in our information on: “Things to consider when planning and budgeting for your new Day True Kitchen”
How long does a kitchen renovation take from start to finish?

Every kitchen renovation timescale will vary according to a variety of factors – including state of readiness of the site and how fast the design schedule takes to complete. Planning applications and build schedule vagaries may also need to be taken into account. Total time taken is otherwise a simple aggregate of design time + manufacturing + delivery + installation. Typical timings for these are as follows: design time (4-6 weeks), manufacturing and delivery (6-8 weeks for modular systems, 12-14 weeks for bespoke), installation (2-3 weeks.)

We would thus advise allowing – on average – between 12 and 17 weeks for a modular kitchen, and between 18 and 23 weeks for a bespoke kitchen from first design appointment to installation in your home.

For more details, our Kitchen Timescale IQ sheet can be viewed here.

What do I do with my old kitchen?

Responsibility to our planet is important to us, which is why we work with ‘Rehome’, who provide a sustainable service which allows you to either sell your old kitchen (which can help to fund your new one) or dispose of your kitchen is a sustainable way. To find out more, click here.

Do you install bathrooms?

We design and supply bathrooms, but we don’t install them. We have a list of contacts for contractors who have worked on our previous projects that we share with those who require an installer for a Day True bathroom or cloakroom. We advise that you contact at least two to compare their working practices and prices and to decide who will work best for you.

How much is it to design and supply a bathroom with Day True?

The cost of a bathroom can vary greatly depending on the scope of work and the materials used. Size of a bathroom is not necessarily correlated with cost, as most bathrooms will include an equal quantity of component parts – ie bath and/or shower, basin, taps, vanity units, WC, towel rails, etc – and the best compact solutions often result from design detailing that is the product of the best of design. We work with a variety of brand partners to be able to service a range of budgets and, although quality is often variable by price, we only work with the best in class to provide the best choice for your project. The average cost for a principal bathroom starts in the region of £20k (not including installation). (price refs for 2025/2026)

Can I just use Day True for Design Services?

While we are flattered you would like to engage with us for our design expertise, the integrity of our designs relies on more than configurations of space and ideas for products and finishes. Design is a holistic discipline – functionality, longevity and your enjoyment of a finished design rely on the specification of furnishings, products and materials that will support the intentions of all that has been laid out on paper and, for this reason, we only offer a complete design and supply service. Our approach is simple: we specify and supply the products and materials that will realise the full potential of our designs for your home.

How do Day True work with external contractors?

At Day True we make sure that our M&E* & technically specific drawings reflect the finer details that ultimately bring our designs to life. This level of detail ensures that your appointed contractor has the information required on site to execute the design as intended.

  • We will provide a full handover of your project to the appointed contractor to ensure all parties are aligned on the design and product specification.
  • We deliver everything to site and communicate with you throughout the process – so there are no surprises.
  • Once we have agreed all your preferred products for the design and have received 50% payment for your project order we then complete and issue a technical drawing pack within an agreed timeframe. These drawings are released in two phases with the M&E being provided first and the remaining technical elements thereafter.

*M&E: Mechanical & Electrical

What happens if I don’t have a contractor appointed for my design project ?

Some clients would like Day True to introduce a contractor to carry out the refurbishment works. Our policy is not to recommend any contractors. We will happily pass on the details of companies/contractors that Day True clients have used in the past so that you may acquire quotations if you wish and to help determine the right contractor for you.

We do recommend the services of BiKKBI (from 1 October 2025: BIFIS). Their service lists approved installers that are members of the government sanctioned British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & bathroom Installation(BiKBBI) (from 1 October 2025: the British Institute of Fitted Interior Specialists (BIFIS).

What is ‘biophilic design’ ?

Biophilic design connects a human affinity with the natural world with a designed environment. it has developed as a design philosophy that connects inhabited space with acquired human instincts and adaptations that have developed across centuries and generations. It’s applied using a dedicated design language that enables designers to explore and incorporate expressions of nature into their designs. For a more detailed outline of the ideas and origins of this design philosophy, visit the IQ hub and our information sheet on “Introducing Biophilic Design into Your Home”.
